SUFFOLK & JACOBS SHEEP:
All our British Wool products originate from a Suffolk or Jacobs sheep. The Suffolk sheep originate from Bury St. Edmunds and is a breed of domestic sheep.
It can be distinguished from other types by its black-face. Whereas the Jacobs sheep (on the right) combines 2 unusually characteristics for a sheep, it is piebald – meaning it has white wool with areas of dark colour.
Also it is often multi-horned, most commonly having 4 horns.
MERINO CHILEAN SHEEP:
This breed specializes in the production of very fine wool which is sought after for its fineness and quality. This wool is used in all of our Merino products
All of the wools at Woolyknit are sourced from parts of the world where mulesing is not practiced.
BLUE FACED LEICESTER SHEEP
This breed first evolved in the 18th century and has curly and fine wool which is one of the softest in the UK.
Its wool is becoming increasingly popular for handspinning. This wool is used in our BFL range
