Celebrating craftsmanship, sustainability and the makers who bring our yarn to life

British Yarn, Crafted with Care

Woolyknit is a family-run business nestled in the Pennine hills of northern England, an area known for wool processing. Warth Mill was built over 150 years ago on the banks of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. This canal was used to help transport fleeces, yarns and fuel from A to B. Warth Mill is now home to Woolyknit, which is rather fitting. Click here to find out more about visiting us in person.

The business was founded by Roger Shepley in 2002. He utilises years of experience working in the spinning and wool processing industry to create high-quality, original yarns. Roger states, "Living and working in an area surrounded by hills and heather clad moors where sheep and lambs roam freely, reminds us on a daily basis of the importance of sustaining our traditional craft but adapting it for modern times and needs".

At Woolyknit, we specialise in manufacturing British wool yarns and are proud to be British Wool registered. This means our British wool yarns are made from high-quality wool sourced from farms across the UK. The British Wool Board support farmers, promotes sustainable practices and are reducing the environmental impact of long-distance wool transport. Our commitment to British Wool ensures all products made with this fibre are ethically sourced, traceable, and of exceptional quality. Click here to browse our British wool yarns.

Whilst we specialise in manufacturing British wool yarns, our collection includes a variety of fibres to suit all sorts of makers. We carefully curate each yarn, selecting the raw fibre, spinning to our specifications and finalising the colour palette. We use a range of natural fibres including British and Merino wool, cotton and linen. These fibres all have their own unique characteristics. Our infamous Yarn2Cone range makes knitting, crocheting and weaving an easy and knot free way to craft! Read more about the fibres we use on our individual product pages.
