At Woolyknit, we have a range of fibres to choose from. Whilst we specialise in manufacturing British wool yarns, our collection includes a variety of fibres to suit all sorts of makers. We carefully curate each yarn, selecting the raw fibre, spinning to our specifications and finalising the colour palette. We use a range of natural fibres including British and Merino wool, cotton and linen. These fibres all have their own unique characteristics. Find your fibre below!
British wool
British wool is a versatile and reliable choice for makers who love working with natural fibres. Merino wool
Merino wool is the perfect choice for makers looking for a luxurious fibre with a soft touch. This fibre will create a fabric that's squishy, breathable and easy to care for. Merino sheep are world famous for having one of the highest quality fleeces of any breed of sheep. The short fibres and fine micron create a luxurious and soft yarn. At Woolyknit, we source our Merino wool from areas of the world where the process of mulesing isn't carried out.
Cotton
Cotton is a soft and strong alternative for those who can't wear wool. It is a naturally absorbent fibre which makes it perfect for dying. Unlike wool, cotton doesn't have much stretch and is as soft as it is strong. If you are looking to make a structured piece with excellent stitch definition, cotton is your fibre. Cotton is also cool, breathable and easy to care for, making it the perfect choice for summer tops and baby clothes.
Linen
Linen has been tried and tested throughout history and is still just as loved. It creates a strong and durable yarn that’s perfect for knitting and weaving. It softens up beautifully with washing and creates a light, drapey fabric with a rustic appearance. Any project made with linen will undoubtedly stand the test of time due to its long fibres and high twist. Linen is breathable, antibacterial and temperature regulating, making it the perfect fibre for summer.
